13 Reasons Why You SHOULD Date A Sailor
Endless weekend getaways, exotic world excursions, and drinking stiff Cosmopolitans in the cockpit at sunset, are just a few of the perks of dating a sailor. While some may argue that dating a sailor is not ideal, like Claire Shefchik explained in her article published back in 2016, 13 Reasons You Should Never Date A Sailor. I would like to offer the contrary. Dating a Sailor with hair that is wind-whipped gold and skin bronzed by the sun is not the only characteristics that makes a Sailor’s admirer weak at the knees. Below are 13 other reasons why Sailors really do make better lovers.
1. Swing in the Sails = Swing in the Bedroom
Let’s cut to the good stuff first. A sailor has an enthusiasm for life and adventure – period. If you are looking for more passion between the sheets, look no further than the robust grip of a Sailor’s hands. There is something to be said for the saying, ¨It’s not the size of the ocean that matters, it is the motion in the ocean that does.¨ If you want a little pep in your step, consider stepping on board and below the seductive sails of a Sailor’s ship.
2. Sailors Know How to Party
While Claire argued in her article that Sailors who know how to party is a bad thing, I argue the contrary. A sailor is a natural at entertaining. He/she knows how to keep the party going and will keep you on your feet dancing the night away. While the saying, “drunk as a sailor” may still have some bearing, I think modern day Sailors are much more inclined to be able to hold down the fort (the ship) while holding down their liquor and making sure everyone around them is having a blast – at least I do.
3. Sailors Have a Refined Taste (but at the same time can let loose)
Sailors are known to have a refined taste in all things culinary, today they’re known as Foodies. Exquisite food, drink, wine, you name it. If you want to date a Sailor don’t be surprised if the first thing they do is wine and dine you with exotic cheeses and imported wine. Once you get comfortable with each other, look forward to a few cold beers and easily prepared (but delicious) burgers. Sailors are the perfect mix of luxury and laid-back.
4. Sailors Have a Unique Sense of Humor (that will keep you laughing until dawn)
Sailors will keep you laughing until you keel over on the deck, and keep you rolling in laughter until you fall overboard. Most likely, they gained their sharp sense of humor from spending time abroad and hanging out with people from all over the world. Their wild stories will never cease to entertain you. Don’t be surprised if the sense of humor of a Sailor is the main reason why you fall in love with them.
5. You Will be Their Right-Hand Man
When you accompany them on their sailing adventures, you will be their right-wing ¨man¨. They will value your company and treat you like a trusted comrade. If you are dating a Sailor and they have asked you to be their first mate, you will know without a doubt, that their current status for you is : head over fins in love. By the way, I knew my wife would be my first mate from the day I met her!
6. Sailors Can Fix Anything
From clogged toilets, to squeaky doors, to faulty marine diesel engines, Sailors can fix pretty much anything. Whether on land or sea, if it breaks, a Sailor will figure out a way to repair it. Sailors really are the ultimate handymen.
7. They Can Save you in an Emergency
What is better than having a Sailor sweep you off your feet into the deep swell of the ocean blue? Having him/her save you from the swell in a life-threatening emergency of course! Most sailors are trained in basic medical first aid, so remaining calm and collected in these kinds of situations are what they do best. Swoon!
8. Sailors are Not Picky and can Sleep Anywhere
There is nothing like traveling with a fussy sleeper. Not only do they require a certain level of comfort, they can make your night a living nightmare when presented with undesirable living conditions. Luckily a Sailor can sleep pretty much anywhere. They are not the least bit fussy and will happily curl up next to you, with or without a cushion, in some exotic far-off nook somewhere in the middle of the world.
9. Sailors are Always on the A List
Somehow sailors know everyone. Many sailors have a grandiose personality that gets them invited to all the “in” parties on the block. Sailors have a charismatic way of talking and connecting to just about anyone. Date a Sailor, and you will never miss a party, a gala or an opening night ceremony.
10. Sailors Know All the Hidden Beaches and Surf Spots
Dating a Sailor is like dating a walking guide-book to the ocean. Sailors will be abreast of all the tide reports, making him/her the ultimate resource in finding those secret surf spots. They know all the best beaches and how to beat the heat of overcrowded tourist traps.
11. Sailors Know How to Let Their Hair Down
A Sailor knows how to dress to the nines, taking every refined detail into consideration when putting on a nice suit. So while a Sailor primped and groomed may take your breath away, there is nothing more flirtatious than a Sailor in casual clothes, slightly scruffy or uncombed salty ocean kissed hair.
12. Sailors are Loyal
While Pirates of the Caribbean and other Hollywood hits may have painted a bleak and charmless picture of a Sailor’s capability to remain faithful- modern day Sailors have proved to be some of the most loyal partners on the block. When Sailors pick a mate, they have already decided in their mind, that they will be able to share weekends or months with you (yes you) in tight-quarters. If you are dating a Sailor, congratulations, he/she considers you their ¨soul-sea-mate.¨
13. Life with a Sailor will Never Ever be Boring
Lets just face the facts: a life with a Sailor will never be boring. I mean, how could it be? With their larger-than-life personality, constant thirst for adventure, and immense adoration for the one they love, Sailors really do make the best lovers. Don’t believe me? It is now backed by Science, check it out, Why Sailors Make Better Lovers.
