Where in The World Are The Best Freshwater Fishing Spots? You May Be Surprised
If sailing is my entree, fishing is my desert. And, freshwater fishing is the most decadent of them all. I love traveling to fishing destinations all over the world to scope out what these magnificent fishing spots have to offer. So where in the world are the best freshwater fishing spots? You may be surprised to find a few hanging out right in your own backyard.
South Platte River, Colorado
Not only is this majestic river awesome for kayaking and boating, it also happens to be one of the best places to fish in freshwater. South Platte River, Colorado also happens to be somewhat of a legend for fly-fishing. The river is situated between marvelous granite boulders. Here you will find a river packed with an abundance of trout. The river is visited by fisherman and outdoor-enthusiasts every year to bask in it’s glory. So, while you may want to skip out on overcrowded weekends, choosing a day of the week to explore the shore bars, and crystal-clear water will not disappoint. This pristine fresh-water river is not to be missed. Especially if you are looking to ‘catch a good drift’.
Lake Jindabyne, Australia
You may have to travel across the world to catch this beautiful freshwater fishing spot. Or, perhaps you are already there. Either way, Lake Jindabyne, happens to be one of Australia’s most renowned spots for trout fishing. The best time to visit this lake is during winter and autumn, when the trout fills the river. But, summertime is also a good time to visit if you plan on bait or fly-fishing. If you are seeking other fresh-water activities this glorious river is awesome for anyone who loves a day out on the water. Windsurfing, sailing, or power-boating are among visitors favorite activities.
Piranha, Amazon Basin, Brasil
While you wouldn’t exactly want to jump in this river for a fresh-water swim, you will definitely feel inspired to fish. And, you will want to fish particularly for piranha in this part of The Amazon Basin. The amazon basin is one of most important Eco-systems in the entire world. Even more, it happens to be home to several species of distinguished fish, including Araipama gigas, Tambaqui, and red bellied-piranhas. And, fishing for one of the most dangerous fishes (Piranhas) seems to be the highlight here.
So, what is it like to fish for piranhas? Is it difficult? Not really, especially if you go with an experienced guide who knows where to find them. The next step is to simply attach a chunk of meat to the end of a mediocre fishing pole. Next, wait for the vigorous nibbles of what may be your dinner that night. And, guest what? Piranhas happen to be pretty tasty. Which debunks the myth that piranhas swallow humans whole. We actually are the ones that fish for and eat Piranha. How cool!
Kobuk River, Alaska
This river, which is only accessible by air, is home to sheefish, arctic grayling, lake trout, arctic char, chum salmon and northern pike. It is probably one of the most distinctive rivers in the entire world purely due to its isolation and beauty. Moreover, this type of fishing adventure puts you right smack in the middle of wild Alaska! Clear-water flows, ponds, and endless lakes are all part of the experience that make this fishing spot truly majestic. If you are looking for a different type of fresh-water fishing escapade, Kobuk River is your destination.
Awww … freshwater fishing, it truly is a fisherman’s delight. So who’s ready to cast away?
Cheers, Gino
